Northern Arizona is also home to the rich history of the west. Here, you will find Native American encampments, ghost towns, and even mining camps as well as old fashioned saloons. You will also find that Northern Arizona is home to America’s highway, which is Route 66.
Here is a detailed list of the places that you should go to when you visit Northern Arizona.
- The first is Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. Here, you will be able to view the massive twisted lava flows that spread across the landscape. When you see the colors of the rock in the largest volcanic peak, then you will understand why this is called Sunset Crater. Along with that, you will also find several smaller cones of extinct volcanoes to be visible.
- You should also explore the ancient pueblos that were carved in to the mountainsides, which are hundreds of feet above the valley floor. The dizzying heights alone are enough to dazzle and awe you on how people of the past could have made their houses here. You will also find intricate paths and tiny caves, which attest to the ingenuity of the Native Americans in order for them to survive and to protect themselves. You will also be able to visit Tuzigoot, Wuptaki, Walnut Canyon National Monuments, and the Montezuma Castle.
- You can also tour the Grand Canyon National Park via the Grand Canyon Railway. Located in Williams, the railway will serve as a historic tour guide for the Grand Canyon National Park. To add to the realism, the engines used here are antiques, which are powered by steam or diesel. There is even a western style shootout and holdup in the train, which really adds to the realism. When you ride with the Grand Canyon Railway, you will feel as if you traveled back in time.
- Another great place to visit in Northern Arizona is Prescott. This is a real western town, which will provide you with all things western. From the famous oak bar at the saloon on Main Street, you will feel as if the town itself was left in the past.
These are only just some of the many other places that you will be able to visit in Arizona. As you can see, Northern Arizona is filled with exciting places to see and great things to experience and do.
